WHEN BATTERY MANAGEMENT UNIT (BMU) ABNORMALITY IS DETECTED


When the BMU detects the abnormality, the diagnosis code should be stored. The EV-ECU monitors to check whether the BMU has abnormalities.

METHOD OF READING AND ERASING DIAGNOSIS CODES

INSPECTION WITH M.U.T.-III DATA LIST AND ACTUATOR TEST


Reading data list or performing an actuator test using M.U.T.-III enables you to check the vehicle body harnesses and components for abnormalities. Sensor input or output to the actuator can be displayed in numerical values or graphs in the data list while in the actuator test the actuator can be forced to drive.

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE




1.Connect M.U.T.-III to perform inspection with the data list and actuator test function.
2.If any abnormality is found, inspect and repair vehicle body harnesses and components.
3.After repair, check that input and output have returned to normal.
4.If a failure code which is caused by inspection and repair work is generated, erase the failure code.
5.Disconnect M.U.T.-III and perform a test run to check that the malfunction phenomenon is resolved.

NUMBERING CMU ID PROCEDURE


Because done at the factory, numbering the CMU ID is not necessary.

PRE-CHECK PROCEDURE OF TRACTION BATTERY EARTH LEAKAGE SENSOR


Use the M.U.T.-III to perform the pre-check of the traction battery earth leakage sensor. This allows the traction battery earth leakage sensor to easily be checked.
note If "Code No. P1A44: Detecting Ground Fault" is stored in the BMU as a current trouble, the pre-check cannot be performed as no pre-check signal is transmitted.

CONFIRMATION METHOD




1.After the electric motor switch is "LOCK" (OFF) position, connect the M.U.T.-III to the diagnosis connector.
2.Turn the electric motor switch to the "START" position, and achieve the READY status.
3.Select "BMU" from System select Screen of the M.U.T.-III.
4.Select "Special Function" from BMU Screen.
5.Select "TEST" from Special Function Screen.
6.Press the OK button to perform the pre-check of the traction battery earth leakage sensor. Check that the service data changes as follows:

7.If the abnormal value is displayed, perform the troubleshooting.

CHECK ON FREEZE FRAME DATA


When judging malfunctions and storing diagnosis codes, the BMU should store the malfunction status per diagnosis code. This function is called "Freeze frame data". By analyzing this "Freeze frame data" with the M.U.T.-III, an effective troubleshooting can be performed. The display items of freeze frame data are shown below.

note *1: If the odometer signal is not received from the combination meter or if invalid values are input, the FFFF km is displayed on the M.U.T.-III.
note *2: When the electric motor switch is turned to "LOCK" (OFF) position with the M.U.T.-III connected, the on board charger should be kept activated. As well, the BMU should be kept activated. Even though the electric motor switch turn to the "START" position and achieve READY status, the number may not be calculated.
note *3: Accumulated time from when malfunction is detected.
note *4: Accumulated time of current malfunction from time point when malfunction is detected.

FAIL-SAFE AND BACKUP FUNCTION


The control is carried out, which keeps the safety driving by the preset control logic when the diagnosis code is set. The diagnosis code having the fail-safe function is as follows.
