COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM


The windshield washer motor, the column switch or ETACS-ECU may be defective.

PROBABLE CAUSES



DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. Check the operation of the windshield wipers.
Check that the windshield wipers work.

Q. Is the check result normal?
Go to step 2.
Refer to Inspection Procedure 1 "Windshield wipers do not work at all."? Refer to .

STEP 2. M.U.T.-III diagnosis code.
Check if an ETACS-related diagnosis code is set.

Q. Is the diagnosis code set?
Diagnose the ETACS. (Refer to GROUP 54A - ETACS, Trouble Symptom Chart .)
Go to step 3.

STEP 3. Connector check: A-23 washer motor connector


Q. Is the check result normal?
Go to step 4.
Repair the damaged connector.

STEP 4. Check the washer motor.
Check that the windshield washer motor works normally. (Refer to .)

Q. Is the check result normal?
Go to step 5.
Replace the washer motor.

STEP 5. Check the operation of the rear washer.
Check that the rear washer works.

Q. Is the check result normal?
Replace the ETACS-ECU.
Go to step 6.

STEP 6. M.U.T.-III data list
Check the input signal related to the windshield washer operation.

  • Electric motor switch: ACC
  • Windshield washer switch: ON

Go to step 7.
Refer to GROUP 54A - ETACS, Inspection Procedure 9 "The column switch signal is not received."? Refer to .

STEP 7. Connector check: B-304 ETACS-ECU connector

Q. Is the check result normal?
Go to step 8.
Repair the damaged connector.

STEP 8. Check the wiring harness between A-23 windshield washer motor connector terminal No. 2 and B-304 ETACS-ECU connector terminal No. 9.
note Before the wiring harness check, check the B-306 junction block connector, and repair if necessary.

  • Check the input line for open or short circuit.

Q. Is the check result normal?
Go to step 9.
Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 9. Check the wiring harness between A-23 windshield washer motor connector terminal No. 1 and B-304 ETACS-ECU connector terminal No. 12.
note Before the wiring harness check, check the B-306 junction block connector, and repair if necessary.

  • Check the input line for open or short circuit.

Q. Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 10.
Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 10. Check the trouble symptom.
Check that the windshield washers work normally.

Q. Is the check result normal?
Intermittent malfunction. Refer to GROUP 00 - How to Use Troubleshooting/Inspection Service Points, - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunctions .)
Replace the ETACS-ECU.
