Inspection Procedure 2: One of tail lamps does not illuminate.

caution Whenever the ECU is replaced, ensure that the input and output signal circuits are normal.

COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM

If any of the taillamps does not illuminate, the wiring harness, connector(s), or rear combination lamp socket assembly may have a problem, or the fuse may be blown.

PROBABLE CAUSES

DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. Connector check: C-11 rear combination lamp (tail: LH) connector, C-09 rear combination lamp (tail: RH) connector

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 2
Repair the defective connector.

STEP 2. Check the bulbs of the tail lamps.

Check the bulb of the lamp which does not illuminate.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 3
Replace the bulb of the lamp which does not illuminate.

STEP 3. Resistance measurement at the C-11 rear combination lamp (tail: LH) connector or C-09 rear combination lamp (tail: RH) connector.

(1)Disconnect the connector, and measure at the wiring harness side.
(2)Check the resistance between the lamp connector and body earth.

  • Resistance between C-11 rear combination lamp (tail: LH) connector terminal No.5 and body earth.
  • Resistance between C-09 rear combination lamp (tail: RH) connector terminal No.5 and body earth.
OK: Continuity exists (2 Ω or less)

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 5
Go to Step 4

STEP 4. Check the wiring harness from C-11 rear combination lamp (tail: LH) connector or C-09 rear combination lamp (tail: RH) connector terminal No.5 to body earth.

  • Check the earth wires for open circuit.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 5
Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 5. Connector check: B-304 ETACS-ECU connector

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 6
Repair the defective connector.

STEP 6. Check the wiring harness from C-11 rear combination lamp (tail: LH) connector or C-09 rear combination lamp (tail: RH) connector terminal No.1 to B-304 ETACS-ECU connector terminal No.15.

note Prior to the wiring harness inspection, check junction block connector B-305 and joint connector B-05, B-06 and C-07 and repair if necessary.

  • Check the output lines for open circuit.

Q. Is the check result normal?

Go to Step 7
Repair the wiring harness.

STEP 7. Retest the system.

Check that the tail/stop lamps illuminate normally.

Q. Is the check result normal?

The trouble can be an intermittent malfunction (Refer to GROUP 00 - How to use Troubleshooting/inspection Service Points - How to Cope with Intermittent Malfunction ).
Replace the tail lamp socket.
