COMMENTS ON TROUBLE SYMPTOM


If only the speedometer, the odometer or the trip meter do not operate, the ASC-ECU system and the combination meter, the wiring harness or the connector(s) may have a problem.

PROBABLE CAUSES



DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

STEP 1. M.U.T.-III CAN bus diagnostics
Use the M.U.T.-III to diagnose the CAN bus lines.

Q. Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 2.
Repair the CAN bus line (Refer to GROUP 54C - Troubleshooting ). On completion, go to Step 5.

STEP 2. Check the M.U.T.-III Diagnosis code for other systems
Check if the diagnosis code is set in either of the ASC-ECU.

Q. Is the diagnosis code set?
Diagnose the ASC-ECU (Refer to GROUP 35C - Troubleshooting ). On completion, go to Step 5.
Go to Step 3.

STEP 3. M.U.T.-III data list
Check the data list of the combination meter.

  • Item 80: Speed meter
  • Item 90: Odometer
  • Item 92: Trip meter A
  • Item 93: Trip meter B

Q. Is the check result normal?
YES (The speedometer does not work) : Go to Step 4.
YES (The odometer or the trip meter does not work) : Go to Step 5.
NO : Diagnose the ASC-ECU (Refer to GROUP 35C - Troubleshooting ). On completion, go to Step 5.

STEP 4. M.U.T.-III actuator test
caution Perform the actuator test of the speedometer. Value displayed on the combination meter will be slightly higher than input by the M.U.T.-III. (due to tolerance of the speedometer display).
Conduct the actuator test to check the speedometer.

  • Item 01: Speedometer
OK: The speedometer indicates higher value by a few km/h than the input by M.U.T.-III.

Q. Is the check result normal?
Go to Step 5.
Replace the combination meter. Then go to Step 5.

STEP 5. Retest the system.
Check that the speedometer, the odometer and the trip meter operate normally.

Q. Is the check result normal?
The procedure is complete.
Replace the combination meter.
